The Lord Has Helped Us 1 Samuel 7:12
After years of unfaithfulness — and one particularly painful lesson learned the hard way — Israel was walking with God again. 1. The Great Testimony Is What God Has Done — Not What We Can Do For Him
- Israel had made the mistake of treating the Ark of the Covenant like a good luck charm — as if God were a tool to be used rather than a Lord to be trusted. They paid for it.
- But when they returned to genuine faithfulness, God moved on their behalf.
- The story of our lives is not about our performance. It’s about His faithfulness.
- Psalm 115:1 — Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to your name be the glory.
- When we look back at the hardest seasons we’ve survived, the honest testimony is always the same: God did it.
2. His Faithfulness In The Past Gives Us Confidence For The Future
- Psalm 46:1 — God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
- If He has been faithful this far, He will be faithful the rest of the way.
- Many of our greatest lessons have come from the valley — not the mountaintop. The hard seasons aren’t evidence that God has abandoned us. They’re often where we learn Him most deeply.
- God is faithful in the trial and faithful in the blessing. Both are His.
- The Ebenezer isn’t just a backward glance — it’s a forward declaration. What He has done is proof of what He will do.
3. His Faithfulness Is Not Dependent On Your Ability
- 2 Timothy 1:12 — I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him.
- God’s faithfulness is not contingent on your strength, your track record, or your performance.
- When we are weak, He remains strong. When we waver, He holds firm.
- If we are faithless, He remains faithful — for He cannot deny Himself. (2 Timothy 2:13)
- This is not a license for carelessness — it’s an anchor for the moments when we feel like we’ve disqualified ourselves from God’s help.
- He doesn’t help us because we’ve earned it. He helps us because that’s who He is.
Bottom Line: Set your stone. Look back at where God brought you from — the valley, the defeat, the season that should have broken you — and name it. Thus far the Lord has helped us. That testimony isn’t just a memory. It’s a map. It tells you exactly who is walking with you into whatever comes next.
